THE PRODUCT
Reach is a hyperlocal alert and mutual-aid concept for Jamaican communities. It explores how nearby people could share urgent signals, requests, and support when infrastructure is degraded.
THE PROBLEM
In rural and hillside communities, important information can move too slowly when a reliable data connection is not available. A useful safety product has to start with that constraint.
MY ROLE
I worked through the product concept, login and self-verification flows, alert language, and the interaction model for a community signal that can move beyond one person's phone.
PRODUCT DECISIONS
Use the idea of a horn relay as a local, human reference for how a signal can travel.
Design around degraded connectivity instead of treating offline behavior as an edge case.
Keep location and proximity meaningful without turning the product into a surveillance map.
Make self-verification and clear alert states part of the first interaction.
INTERFACE
Reach uses clear status states, large action targets, and a visual language inspired by signals moving across a landscape. The product is meant to be understood quickly under pressure.
ENGINEERING
The prototype explores phone-to-phone relay ideas and local signal propagation without assuming continuous Internet access. The implementation details remain part of the experiment.
